Oct 31, 2021: While talking to private news channel GeoTV, Shoaib Akhtar shared his views on Babar Azam’s captaincy of Pakistan’s national cricket team.
Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said on Saturday that Babar Azam’s captaincy previously came with “strings attached”, but now, he has been given the authority.
Speaking on Geo News, Akhtar said: “Babar used to be dictated, but now, he looks like a captain [after a change in administration].” The former fast bowler said Azam worked “under pressure” during the previous administration.
Under Azam’s leadership in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan has a role to play as it has beaten both the top-ranked teams – India and New Zealand – in the group stage, while they also won against Afghanistan on Friday. Pakistan will play Namibia in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, followed by their last match on November 7 against Scotland in Sharjah.
