Sindh Government to Impose Weeklong Lockdown in Sindh

The Sindh government has decided to impose a weeklong lockdown across the province starting August 1 to August 8 in view of the spread of the Delta variant.

A Coronavirus Task Force meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in which it was decided that employees who haven’t been vaccinated against coronavirus would not be paid their salaries after August 31.

The Sindh Chief Minister announced that export industries would remain open during the lockdown period but government offices will be closed.

It was also decided that inter-city transport would be banned and all markets would remain closed. Furthermore, pharmacies will remain open and every citizen on the road will undergo a vaccination card check by the administration.

The Sindh Chief Minister stated that the Sindh government’s decisions have the support of Provincial Assembly members, as well as of businessmen and doctors, and members belonging to the opposition parties.

Provincial ministers Nasir Shah, Jam Ikram, Murtaza Wahab, Qasim Soomro, opposition MPAs, Bilal Ghaffar, Abdul Rashid MMA, Qasim Fakhri TLP, Hasnain Mirza GDA, and businessmen Zubair Motiwala, Shaukat Suleiman FPCCI, Saqib Goodluck of KCCIZ were present at the meeting.

In addition, the Chief Secretary, IG Police, DG Rangers, Health Secretary, Finance Secretary, Labor Secretary, Secretary School Education, Dr. Bari, Dr. Faisal, Dr. Sara, Dr. Qaiser Sajjad, Prof. Dr. Saeed Qureshi, Corps 5, and representatives of other institutions were also present.

The Sindh Chief Minister said that he wanted to take all the stakeholders into confidence regarding the virus situation, therefore members of the opposition and businessmen have also been invited.

“It’s an epidemic and I want us all to have a voice,” he stated.
