Smog in south and central Punjab effects air and land transport

Dec 17, 2021: The central and southern parts of Punjab were enveloped in smog on Friday, disrupting flights and trains in some cities of the province.

Due to the smog situation, many flights from Lahore and Sialkot airports were delayed. Since last night, about our scheduled flights to Lahore were diverted to Islamabad. The publication said that the schedule of trains from Karachi and Quetta was also affected. During this time, after reports of several traffic accidents, motorways were closed for traffic at various places.

M2 from Bhera, M4 from Shershah to Shamkot and M5 from Jalalpur Interchange to Shershah and Rohri to Guddu have been blocked. Motorway police have advised citizens to drive safely and avoid unnecessary travel.

According to daily Jang news, three persons were killed and one injured in a traffic accident in Bahawalpur while two persons were killed and seven others injured when a car fell into a river in Gujranwala.

For some time now, Lahore has been consistently ranked as one of the most polluted cities in the world in the Air Quality Index.
