Son of former Libyan ruler Gadhafi runs for president

Libya: The son of  Moammar Gadhafi, Libya’s late dictator has made a public appearance for the first time in ten years on Sunday in order to register as a presidential candidate for the December polling to help restore order in the country which was lost after his father was over-thrown.

Saif al-Islam Moammar Gadhafi, aged 49, appeared in an electoral commission video clad in a traditional brown robe and a turban. In the video he was seen signing documents at the election center in the southern town of Sebha, Libya.
Gadhafi is one of the most prominent figures expected to run in the elections for president, a list that also includes eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar, Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah and parliament speaker Aguila Saleh.
He is rather famous in Libya for he once played a major role in re-shaping the policy before the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that destroyed his family’s regime, after which he was barely seen for about ten years.
While Gadhafi serves as nostalgia for the era before the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that over-threw his father and brought unrest in the country, analysts suggest that he may not prove to be a front runner.
