Dec 28, 2021: Former test player and captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, who now heads the country’s cricket board BCCI, has been admitted to a Kolkata hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, his brother Snehashish told Reuters news agency on Tuesday.
“Souruv has contacted Covid-19 but he is feeling fine,” Snehashish said by telephone, adding that the positive result came on Monday night. The 49-year-old, one of India’s most successful captains, underwent angioplasty earlier this year after complaining of chest pain.
In India, more than 6,000 new cases were reported on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 293.
In the world’s second most populous country, about 34.8 million people have contracted the novel coronavirus and more than 480,000 deaths have been confirmed.
