South Africa triumph over India in second test match

Jan 6, 2022: South Africa captain Dean Elgar’s stunning 96 not out helped South Africa to a seven-wicket victory in the second Test against India at the Wanderers on Thursday, tying the three-match series 1-1.
On the fourth day, what was expected to be a hard chase turned into a comfortable victory for the home side after a delay of about six hours in the start of the game due to rain. When the game started after tea, floodlights were burning under the cloudy sky.
When play resumed after the rain, the hosts were at 118 for two in pursuit of a target of 240, Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen added 57 runs in the first hour before Van der Dussen was caught behind off Mohammed Shami for 40. The pair had put on 82 for the third wicket.
Temba Bavuma gave Shardul Thackur a chance to catch and bowl before scoring but then batting strongly made 23 not out and stayed with Elgar till the end. The captain was not successful enough to complete his century but Ravi Chandran made four runs off the ball of Ashwin and scored the winning runs.
The final and decisive match of the three-match series will start on Tuesday in Newlands, Cape Town.
