Ahmadullah Wasiq, deputy head of the Taliban’s cultural commission, has said that women will not be allowed to play any sport, including cricket, without covering their bodies and faces. Talking to Australian media, the Taliban leader said that women’s participation in sports was neither appropriate nor necessary and would not violate Islamic values. Ahmadullah Wasiq, deputy head of the Afghan Cultural Commission, said that he did not think women should be allowed to play cricket because, in cricket, women face a situation where their bodies and faces are not appropriately covered, which is un-Islamic. “It is against religious teachings,” he said.
