According to a report by Baaghi TV, Asif Iqbal, assistant director of the cyber wing FIA, has said that spreading false news on social media and forwarding it without verification is a crime.

Tweeting on social networking site Twitter, Asif Iqbal said that by spreading false news on social media and forwarding it unverified not only makes a person discredited but also guilty of committing a crime.

Asif Iqbal has said in a video message that people share a lot of fake news without any confirmation. Many Hadith are also shared without confirmation. Sayings attributed to Hazrat Ali(RA) are also shared without confirmation.

There are also some posts on social media regarding treatment of corona which are forwarded to groups without confirmation. Citizens should make themselves responsible. Some letters were also shared which were not issued by the government. News of Amanullah Khan’s death was also spread on social media, then his daughter had to come and say that her father is alive.

Asif Iqbal further said that these things are not only immoral but also have a cyber crime section. Cybercrime can take legal action in this regard, if someone spreads fake news. Legal action will be initiated against the one who spreads fake news.
