Medical staff at a local hospital confirmed that at least seven survivors were being treated for injuries. Officials said most of the victims were ethnic Pashtuns from Balochistan, with at least three Afghan refugees among those killed or wounded.

This incident follows a recent suicide car bombing, claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), near Karachi’s airport in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province. The attack resulted in the deaths of two Chinese engineers and left at least 10 others injured, including a Chinese national and local security personnel. The Chinese victims were employees at a coal-fired power plant built by Beijing in the port city of Karachi.

Since 2017, at least 21 Chinese nationals have been killed in Pakistan. In response to the latest attacks, the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging Pakistan to conduct a thorough investigation, bring the perpetrators to justice, and enhance security measures to protect Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions operating in the country.

The ongoing violence, including attacks on Chinese nationals, threatens to strain Pakistan’s relationship with China, particularly in the context of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. With the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit set to take place in Islamabad on October 15-16, the rising instability presents a significant challenge.
