Success in the first Test against South Africa is the result of teamwork, Inzamam-ul-Haq
Karachi, Jan 29: Fawad Alam scores a magnificent century, his partnership with Azhar Ali proved to be the turning point of the match, former captain of the national cricket team.
Former national cricket team captain and legendary batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq has termed the victory of host Pakistan in the first Test match against South Africa as a result of teamwork. Inzamam-ul-Haq says that Babar Azam showed the best captaincy in the match, it was not felt for a moment that he was performing the duties of captaincy in the Test match for the first time.
Inzamam-ul-Haq says return to cricket after injury and then leading Test team for the first time put pressure on Babar Azam. In such a situation, the importance of the toss had increased but Babar Azam remained steadfast despite losing the toss. He congratulated Babar Azam on the overwhelming resistance from Pakistan.The former captain said that Babar Azam maintained the field position during the match and that it reflects his leadership abilities.
The former captain said that Fawad Alam scored a magnificent century in the first innings of the match as they are well aware of the pitch and conditions here. The former batsman said that Fawad Alam has extensive experience of playing in the National Stadium Karachi, he has already scored ten centuries in first class cricket here.
Inzamam-ul-Haq said that the partnership between Fawad Alam and Azhar Ali proved to be the turning point in Pakistan’s first innings. He said that after losing four wickets for 27 runs, the manner in which these two batsmen used their experience to get Pakistan out of the whirlpool of difficulties is commendable.
The legendary batsman added that experienced players show their full potential in difficult conditions., Fawad Alam and Azhar Ali also played the same role for Pakistan. He said that it was the excellent partnership of the two due to which first Faheem Ashraf played an innings of 64 runs then Hassan Ali, Noman Ali and Yasir Shah also showed better batting. These valuable runs further strengthened Pakistan’s position in the match.
Inzamam-ul-Haq says that he congratulates Noman Ali on taking five wickets in an innings during his debut Test match. He bowled consistently on a certain line, from which rival batsmen made mistakes and lost wickets.
The former captain said that Pakistan would have to resolve the issue of opening batting before the second Test match.
He is in favor of giving more chances to these two openers Abid Ali and Imran Butt. Abid Ali knows the art of scoring long runs in Pakistan while Imran Butt has just played one match.
“Of course, Karachi’s pitch was not very conducive to batting, but our openers will have to score runs to ease the pressure on the middle-order batting line-up in the upcoming matches,” he added.
