“If someone goes to the tandoor without a handkerchief or basket, will he not get bread? Legislation is the purview of the parliament, the job of the judiciary is to interpret it and the job of the executive is to enforce it”. Justice Manzoor Malick asked the officer, “Is there any law for non-supply of petrol to motorcyclists without helmets?”.
The officer responded by saying there is no such law, DC complied with the order of the Lahore High Court. To which Justice Manzoor Malick replied, “You want to say that you do not agree with the decision of the single bench”? To this the officer said, “Yes, but this decision has benefited a lot and created awareness among the people”.
“Anybody who knocks at the door of the law is deserving of respect, be he a doctor, lawyer, engineer or professor”, said the judge to the DC Lahore. “People who live under the poverty line are also deserve respect. Every region and area have their own dress code and it deserves respect. The only difference is that just as not everything is said in a gathering, not every dress can be worn”. “The purpose of the court is not to humiliate anyone, if you have something on your mind please get it off your chest”, the judge further said to the DC.The judge went on to state, “Today you look graceful in your dress attire”.
The DC Lahore has issued notification of non-supply of petrol to those who do not wear helmets, according to the petitioner. Supreme Court declares DC Lahore’s notification null and void.
