Team manager Mansoor Rana says Pakistani cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Shoaib Malik are feeling better and it is likely that they will play the T20 World Cup semi-final match against Australia today (Thursday).
In an update, the PCB said that the health of both the players has improved and a medical panel will review their fitness status before the crucial match. He added that the administration would announce the confirmed decision at the end of the day.
“We hope both players are in action today. They want to play in the semi-finals, “said Rana.
Earlier, sources said that Rizwan and Malik’s participation in today’s semi-final became doubtful after the in form batsmen contracted the flu. However, since then, their COVID-19 test came back negative but the doctors advised them to rest, due to which they did not attend the last practice session and stayed at the hotel.
Pakistan has been unbeaten in the Super 12 stage of the tournament where it has beaten India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland.
In a virtual press conference a day ago, captain Babar Azam said that he was confident that the Men in Green team would maintain its momentum and perform well against Australia in the semi-finals.
Babar said that small flaws have been identified in all the matches which are sometimes related to batting and sometimes to bowling. “Sometimes fielding lapses are also noted,” he said. “It’s good that we’re trying to solve these problems,” he said.
