Taliban expected to announce new government today

Sept 3, 2021: Two weeks after seizing power in Afghanistan, the Taliban are set to form a government in the country on Friday.

The Taliban will form a government after Friday prayers, sources said.

The Taliban took control of Afghanistan after capturing Kabul on August 15. The group reaffirmed its commitment to bringing peace and security to the country after decades of war, declaring victory after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The Taliban, who took control of the country before the withdrawal of US troops this week, are now waiting to rule a nation that relies heavily on international aid and is mired in the worst economic crisis. In the eyes of international donors and investors, the new government’s legitimacy will be important to the economy as the country fights the ravages of drought and a conflict that has killed an estimated 240,000 Afghans.

The Taliban has promised to allow any foreigner or Afghan to leave the country after being left behind by a large-scale air lift that ended on Monday following the withdrawal of the last US troops. But with Kabul Airport still closed, many people were trying to flee to neighboring countries via land routes.

It may be recalled that a few days ago, Taliban officials in Doha announced that a government would be announced soon, which would include new faces, who had served in previous governments.

The delegation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan had met the French delegation in Doha. Spokesman Sohail Shaheen said that the current situation in Afghanistan and political issues were discussed during the meeting.

The UAE delegation said that peace has been restored in the country, and children have started going to school, there is peace in the country, the media is working.

Taliban leader Abbas Stanekzai said the announcement of a Taliban government in Afghanistan was expected in the next 24 to 48 hours. Old faces will not join the Taliban government, he said.

Newly qualified people of every nationality will be made part of the new government.

He claimed that women would be represented in government institutions in the Taliban government.
