Tax audits will be done by third party, not FBR: Shaukat Tareen

May 25, 2021: Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen has said that for the first time in Pakistan’s history, tax defaulters will be imprisoned.

BaaghiTV: According to details, expressing his views in an interview, Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen said that our emphasis will be on job creation, the government wants to increase production to bring down prices, PBS is independent.

He said, “Asad Umar took this institution under the Planning Division. It has only been a month since I asked him if there was any forgery. I was told that there is no such thing. Growth rate was calculated keeping all the records in mind.”

The Finance Minister said that we also need to fix the power sector. ML-1 is not such a big issue. China has set up such a huge infrastructure for us.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen further said that if 70% tax is holding and Telenor etc. and banks are paying together, then if FBR deals in 30% then what will they do to change their behavior? He said that there will be universal self-assessment and after that the audit will be done by a third party, FBR will not do the audit, we will take people from ICAP, we will put the defaulters in jail, for the first time in Pakistan.

Rejecting the comparison with incorrect figures, Shaukat Tareen said, “Our emphasis will now be on job creation. The government wants to increase production so that prices come down, which has already begun.”

Shaukat Tareen expressed hope that he would come up with such programs in the middle of the budget which would increase the rate from 4% to 5%. Shaukat Tareen said that in comparison, in the first five or six months, the profit margin was higher than last year. From February to May, our economy began to grow by 50 to 60 percent over the previous year.
