The future is not of degrees but of skills: Shafqat Mahmood

Baaghi TV: Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mahmood has said that the future is not of degrees but of skills.

While addressing a program held at a local hotel, Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said that we are imparting technical and vocational training to over 170,000 people. In our time, degrees were everything but in the coming future degrees will not be needed.

He said that the near future is based on skills and the present situation is that, during training we have encountered a lot of people who have degrees but don’t have any jobs.

The Federal Minister for Education said that we are promoting quality in higher education. We wanted to find leaders through education but there are very few people who have managerial skills. It is painful for me that we have hired staff in addition to faculty members, although there should have been more researchers with faculty members.

He said that we have a total of 232 universities but we want to create more private and government sector universities. He admitted that there is a shortage of staff along with pressure from the society in terms of who should get a job.
