2nd October 2020: Both Azerbaijan and Armenia appeared on the world map after the fall of Russia in 1991. Armenia has a population of 3 million and an army of 46,000. Azerbaijan has a population of 10 million and an army of more than 100,000.

The reason for the conflict between the two countries is as follow:

Azerbaijan has a Muslim population while Armenia has a Christian population.

Between the two countries is a mountainous area of 4400 square kilometres, by the name of Nagorno-Karabakh which is part of Azerbaijan according to the UN map. But in 1992, Armenia claimed that the area was predominantly Christian, so it belonged to Armenia.

Azerbaijan rejected this claim and took the position that the region also has a Muslim population and has historically always been part of Azerbaijan.

The conflict has erupted between the two countries, which has so far killed 30,000 people and displaced more than 100,000. The negotiating table has been set up several times, but both countries have stuck to their positions.

The reason for the recent tensions is Armenia’s position that Azerbaijan has fired on some of our people, which has resulted in some deaths. In response, Armenia also claimed to have shot down two Azerbaijani planes. Thus both countries are at the crossroads of war.

The United Nations says the two countries should work together to resolve the dispute.

Which country supports Armenia and which supports Azerbaijan?

Since both countries, were previously part of Russia, it’s main role was to decide the ownership of the disputed territory. But Russia remains a silent spectator just the UK remains silent on the Kashmir issue.
Some sources say that Russia is secretly supporting Armenia because it provides defence equipment to Armenia. In addition, Russia has defence agreements with six Central Asian countries, including Armenia, under which Russia is obliged to defend Armenia.
Armenia, on the other hand, maintains that Russia’s silence despite the defence agreement violates the agreement.

According to the news agency, Turkey is openly supporting the diplomatic, financial and defence of Azerbaijan as it claims to be the guardian of the Islamic nation. Turkish fighter jets are also present in Azerbaijan.

France is openly supporting Armenia because of its Christianity. As relations between France and Turkey are already strained over the issue of Greece and the Red Sea. Now it is natural for France to support Armenia in the context of Armenia-Azerbaijan tensions.

India is only supporting Armenia to take revenge on Turkey because Turkey supports Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. Recently, India has also provided some defence equipment to Armenia and further supply has been announced.

The fraternal relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan have been going on for years and are getting stronger with the passage of time. The establishment of the Azerbaijani Cultural Section in the Folk Heritage Museum in Islamabad is a link in the same chain.

Azerbaijan has agreed to supply 200% cheaper gas to Pakistan from Qatar and has also decided to buy JF-Thunder aircraft. Therefore, it is natural for Pakistan to support Azerbaijan.

It should be remembered that Pakistan is the only country in the world that has not yet recognized Armenia.
