Margalla Hills first and now Pabbi Kharian, it doesn’t come with a surprise. Perhaps this is a sequel to a change in the changing climatic conditions we witness yearly.

This warrants more rains, flooding, and even raging fires that can engulf areas leaving a verdant paradise into ash and dust. As this cataclysmic change kicks in we should be better equipped to tackle this menacing event on a war footing.

First and foremost, the department of forest in every district should be equipped fully to tackle problems at home.

There is no mention of funds or grants that are allocated periodically for this legit cause of fighting when required.

The worthy CM of Punjab must take cognizance of this alarming situation.

Wild summer fires are a common occurrence during the peak seasons across the globe. Yet more care needs to be exercised. We will have to equip ourselves with better means. Periodically injection of funds should be made to the respective departments for improving upon their available resource and counter this catastrophic happening.

Trees play a vital role in our daily lives. They need to be saved at all costs. They are the engines that provide oxygen to the living beings. The Amazon jungles in South America account for twenty-five percent of the world’s oxygen. They are known to be the lungs of the earth. They may well absorb millions of tons of carbon dioxide in them.

The sun, the rain, the trees, and the animals are the basis of an interconnecting chain and web of life.

Next is monsoon rains that may be knocking on our doors very soon.

The CM must visit every district, take control, and ensure no useless schemes are taken upon to satisfy the ego or the whim of the respective MPA or MNA of the respective area. Such like projects be prioritized to avoid any destructible happening.

The Municipal Committees should be on their toes running amuck before the monsoon arrives. Cleaning of nullahs and stormwater channels should be made a priority.

The medicinal waste in every district should be catered to through incinerators.

Dumping sites be chosen and guarded well with geo membranes that prevent toxic waste from permeating into the lower strata. Remember that could wreak havoc. It could be a virulent cause of the mixing of toxic waste with water underground. Hence, we may witness more cases of hepatitis.

Managing waste and its disposal effectively scientifically should be a no-one priority.

Ban on plastic bags be made a priority.

Every household must, therefore, be provided or asked to dump their waste in paper bags. Let’s get down to basics once again. The time to act is now.
