The federal government’s budget will be presented in the National Assembly today. Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen will present the third budget. This year, 15% increase in salaries and pensions of employees is expected. Last year, no increase was made. According to the news agency, the total budget will be Rs 8,000 billion and the deficit will be Rs 3,050 billion. The tax revenue target has been set at Rs 5,820 billion and non-tax revenue at Rs 1,420 billion, according to the document.
Rs 22 billion for the Ministry of Education and Training, Rs 22.78 billion for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rs 14 billion for the Ministry of Housing and Works, Rs 7 billion for Industry and Production, Rs 11 billion for the Ministry of Information and Rs 14 billion for the Ministry of Information Technology. Rs 160 billion to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rs 199 billion to the Ministry of Kashmir, Northern Areas and Gilgit-Baltistan, Rs 18 billion to the Ministry of Law and Rs 29 billion to the Ministry of Food Security.
The meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the Federal Cabinet which will be chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Opposition parties will also meet before the National Assembly session. Opposition parties also have to formulate a strategy before the session to give the government a tough time in the budget session. In this regard, Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif kept in touch with the political parties.
