The president of Iran is here on a three-day visit. He comes in the wake of a much-publicized Israeli strike on the Iranian Consulate in Damascus which left six people killed.

The answer was a rapid response with the firing of ballistic and cruise missiles, surprising the Israelis to a large extent. They were bamboozled and dumbfounded.

Pakistan has vociferously voiced its concerns to halt atrocities carried out by the Israelis on innocent civilians. Like all other countries, we demand an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities. Instead, there has been a series of escalatory raids killing innocent men, women, and children, indiscriminately and interminably still.

We don’t hope that this conflagration might take in its grip the entire region disturbing the peace in the area.

The president’s arrival comes at a time we are expected by our major ally the US not to cosy up with Iran.

Culturally, religiously, and historically we share commonality as far as the two countries are concerned.

Let’s just see what are the ensuing problems that Pakistan is confronted with.

First and foremost, the penalty for postponing and not commissioning the pipeline is costing us to pay through our noses. The penalty runs in billions of rupees. We are by no means in a position to foot the bill. We are up Schitt Creek. The president envisions a 10 billion dollars worth of bilateral trade between the two countries. A waiver might help considering the breeze of conviviality that blows in from our neighbouring country. Now considering America, the American tone and tenor is just opposite to what Iranians might have to represent. The sword of Damocles keeps hanging on our heads as far as the fear of the imposition of sanctions is concerned. Clearly, America and their government are making no bones about the sanctions dashing all our hopes of our newly found love with Iran. So how are we going to pull it through?

While in Islamabad, our prime minister appeared ill at ease. His facial expressions belied his otherwise good intentions. He wasn’t his true self.

One of the largely produced natural resources in Iran is fuel and gas which we could tremendously avail Our selves of, everything comes at a price it seems. This opportunity if allowed could work wonders. But then when we tried doing it with Russia, the marriage broke without formally marrying one another.

We have lost our spine due to debt produced by corruption and our inability to make free decisions for the good of this nation. The nation is paying for its insensitivity to the accountability of the culprits who have law and justice in their hands. justice is a bitch of the rich (in Punjabi, kuttee choran naal rullee hoi hay).
