Feb 8, 2022: According to a report by cricket.com.au, ticket allocations for this year’s men’s T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at the MCG sold out within five minutes of going on sale to the general public on Monday.
With the current year promising to to be packed with cricketing events, cricket lovers’ excitement for the T20 Men’s World Cup 2022 is at the next level.
Australia is hosting the World Cup this year, with matches taking place at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Although the tournament is huge, cricket fans around the world are looking forward to this historic match between traditional rivals Pakistan and India.
Meanwhile, tickets available for India’s second group game at SCG also went on sale on Monday, despite the fact that their opponent has not yet been named. Tickets for the tournament, which will be held in seven venues across Australia between October 16 and November 13 this year, are now on sale to the public, with 200,000 tickets already picked up during the pre-sale period.
For the SCG match on October 27, which will see South Africa face Bangladesh before India take on a qualifier in the evening, were also exhausted shortly after going on sale on Monday.
The match between rivals India and Pakistan on October 23 – who do not currently play bilateral cricket, was hugely popular and the ticket allotment ended within five minutes of the sale. The two sides last played in Australia in 2015 at the Adelaide Oval and the tickets for that match also sold out in minutes.
Ticket prices for the tournament start at $5 for children and $20 for adults, with tournament CEO Michelle Enright hopeful more tickets will be bought by non residents and international tourists now that Australia has announced an opening of its borders on the 21st of this month.
Aside from the Pakistan India match, other strong sellers include Australia’s tournament opener against New Zealand in Sydney on October 22, Australia’s match against England at the MCG on October 28, and the tournament final in Melbourne on November 13.
Like last year’s tournament in the UAE, this year’s tournament will once again feature 16 teams and will run in the Super 12 format like the previous edition. The Australian team that won its first T20 World Cup in Dubai last year is grouped with New Zealand, England, Afghanistan and two teams that will advance to the first round of the tournament.
India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh and two more first round teams will join the second group.
