TikTok sues Trump Administration
New York, 25th August: Chinese company TikTok has sued the Trump administration over the US ban.
According to reports from the international media, TikTok sued the Trump administration in response to what it said is a ‘heavily politicized’ executive order that seeks to ban the short-form video app from the United States.
The lawsuit alleges that Trump’s order violates due process protections, exceeds the scope of sanctions rules, and offers no evidence for its claims that TikTok presents a national security threat.
President Trump Targets TikTok with New Executive Order
TikTok said it strongly disagreed with the White House’s position that the company was a national security threat, saying it had “taken extraordinary measures to protect the privacy and security of TikTok’s U.S. user data.”
TikTok and the parent company ByteDance Ltd have also described Trump’s call in his Aug. 6 executive order for a TikTok ban as a means to further his alleged “broader campaign of anti-China rhetoric.”
They further claim this is ahead of the Nov. 3 US presidential election, where Trump is seeking a second term.
Donald Trump warned Republicans of rigged elections
“We do not take suing the government lightly,” TikTok said. “But with the Executive Order threatening to bring a ban on our U.S. operations … we simply have no choice.”
The White House referred a request for comment to the USA Department of Justice, which declined to comment.
US President Trump has been complaining that TikTok, owned by Chinese company ByteDance Ltd, was a national security threat and might share information about users with the Chinese government.
Trump issued an executive order on the 14th of August giving ByteDance 90 days to divest TikTok’s US. operations and any data.
