TLP Long March: Ditches dug on GT Road

Due to Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan’s (TLP) long march, trenches have been dug on the Grand Trunk (GT Road) near River Chenab.

According to the spokesman of the traffic police, the traffic on the entrances and exits of the provincial capital Lahore is running as per normal. The police have seemed to provide alternative routes.

As per sources, the spokesperson also stated:

“Additional personnel were deployed on alternative routes to keep the traffic flowing. The orphanage has been opened for traffic. Traffic is running normally at Lower Mall, Ravi Bridge, Secretariat Chowk.”

On the other hand, the Highway Police said that pits have been dug near the Chenab River in Gujranwala to stop the march. Trenches have been dug 12 feet wide and 12 feet deep at GT Road Toll Plaza. The main GT road from Abad to Lahore and Lahore to Islamabad was closed to all types of traffic.

On the other hand, the general public is facing difficulties due to digging of pots on GT Road. The connection of Gujranwala city to Gujarat was cut off due to digging of pots.

Before leaving for Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister Imran Khan called on a government team comprising Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri and Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat to negotiate with the leadership of the banned TLP. A directive was issued.

An important meeting was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid. Federal and provincial ministers also attended the meeting at Punjab Safe City Authority Office. Noorul Haq Qadri, Ali Amin Gandapur, Provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat, IG Punjab and others. Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid was briefed on the banned TLP March.
