It has been over three days since Storm Daniel wreaked havoc on Libya’s eastern port city of Derna, leaving it in ruins as most of its residents slept, unaware of the impending disaster.

Usama al-Husadi, a 52-year-old driver, has been tirelessly searching for his wife and five children since the storm struck on Sunday night. The storm caused dams above the city to burst, resulting in devastating floods that swept away everything in their path.

With tears in his eyes, al-Husadi shared his agonizing ordeal, recounting how he combed the area, visiting hospitals and schools in a desperate quest to find his family. Regrettably, his efforts were in vain, as his repeated calls to his wife went unanswered.

Tragically, al-Husadi’s family is not alone in their suffering. Many others have experienced similar heart-wrenching losses, with dozens of relatives missing or confirmed dead due to this calamity.

The scale of the disaster is staggering, with more than 6,000 people reported dead, and Islamic Relief has issued a dire warning that this number is likely to double or even quadruple as the full extent of the tragedy becomes clear.
