Troops withdrawal from Afghanistan, is the US ignoring Pakistan? #Baaghi

Senator Lindsey Graham, a member of the opposition Republican Party in the United States (US), has expressed concern that President Joe Biden’s disregard for Pakistan could have dire consequences if he withdraws from Afghanistan.

According to details, the Republican senator’s remarks come as violence in Afghanistan escalates ahead of the US troop withdrawal on September 11, 2021 and talks continue in Doha to reach an agreement between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

Pakistan is urging the US to ensure a political settlement between all Afghan parties in Afghanistan before the withdrawal.

In his tweets on Tuesday, Senator Lindsey Graham called US President Joe Biden’s reluctance to contact Prime Minister Imran Khan “surprising” and warned that ignoring Pakistan while withdrawing from Afghanistan would be disastrous and could turn out to be a bigger mistake than Iraq.

“How do we expect our withdrawal from Afghanistan to be effective without coordinating with Pakistan?,” he asked. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan also said in an interview with an American TV channel last week that he had not yet had any contact with President Biden.

It is to be noted that President Joe Biden has not had any contact with the Prime Minister of Pakistan since he took over the presidency. Prime Minister Imran Khan had said in a recent article in the Washington Post that Pakistan was ready to partner with the United States for peace in Afghanistan but would stay away from any further conflict.

US President Joe Biden’s failure to contact Prime Minister Imran Khan directly on the eve of his withdrawal from Afghanistan has been a topic of discussion in the global and local media.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi commented on the issue in a talk show on private TV channel on Tuesday night, saying there was no animosity between Pakistan and the US leadership and that President Biden had extensive experience in foreign affairs. Therefore, they are aware of the importance of Pakistan.

Furthermore, Qureshi had said that Washington could have its own priorities and Islamabad was in no hurry. However, the American leadership is making its position clear and unambiguous.
