Trump: Military Equipment Left in Afghanistan Without Reason

US President Donald Trump has once again criticized the withdrawal from Afghanistan, telling reporters that leaving behind military equipment in the country was an illogical decision that cost billions of dollars.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the Japanese prime minister, Trump stated that the military assets were abandoned in Afghanistan without any justified reason, calling it only a small portion of the total US military equipment involved.

Trump said: “We left some of it behind in Afghanistan stupidly. There was no reason for that. As much as it was—billions and billions of dollars.”

At the same time, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told Pentagon staff that the Department of Defense will review the chaotic withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan. Hegseth emphasized that the review aims to determine what mistakes were made and why no one has been held accountable so far.

He stressed that the goal of the review is not revenge but accountability.

“Look back at what happened in Afghanistan and hold people accountable. Not to be retrospective not for retribution, but to understand what went wrong and why there was no accountability for it. Those types of things are examples,” Hegseth stated.

Some political analysts believe that after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, there is a need for greater diplomatic engagement with Washington.

Najiburrahman Shamal, a political analyst, told TOLOnews: “We hope that with the formation of a new government under Mr. Trump, cooperation will continue, and Afghanistan’s current leadership will work to foster understanding and strengthen ties with the international community, especially the United States.”

However, some experts argue that the US is hesitant to engage with Afghanistan, viewing it as either a failed mission or a strategic retreat, which is why Washington has not taken the initiative to rebuild ties.
