An armyman and an unidentified person were killed in an operation in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday, officials said.
The gunfight erupted at Kamrazipora, Pulwama after joint teams of forces launched a search operation.
“As the suspected area was being cordoned person opened fire in which a armyman was critically wounded. The fire was retaliated and in the gunfight, one unidentified person has been killed so far,” a security official said.
The injured armyman later succumbed to his injuries.
The identity of the slain armyman could not be established immediately.
Army said one AK rifle, along with grenades, pouches and other warlike stores, was recovered from the encounter site.
“Search operation is in progress,” Army statement said.
