Typhoon Nisarga wreaking havoc in India

India, 4th June: A typhoon has wreaked havoc in India, killing three people and injuring several others.

According to Baaghi TV, typhoon Nisarga has reached near Mumbai and as reported has not caused much damage to the city.

Typhoon has wreaked havoc in Raigarh and Palghar. According to reports one person has been killed when a transformer fell due to strong winds. Two people have been killed in two separate incidents in Pune.

As per sources, due to strong winds in different parts of the state, roofs of houses were blown off and communication system has been disrupted. While railway and flight operations have also been severely affected.

More than 100,000 people have been evacuated from coastal areas. Large signboards and trees have fallen in many areas destroying many vehicles.

Winds of 120 km per hour blew in the coastal strip of Maharashtra. Similarly, Typhoon Nisarga did not cause any major damage on the southern coast of Gujarat. Gujarat government evacuated more than 63,700 people from coastal areas of 8 districts.

The coastal region of Maharashtra received heavy rains along with hurricane-force winds, while alerts have been issued in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigarh, Ratnagiri and Sindhugari districts.

43 teams of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in Maharashtra and Gujarat. In Mumbai, people have been instructed to stay at home for 6 to 7 hours.

Gujarat State Relief Commissioner Arshad Patel said that fortunately the storm passed without any major accident or loss of life.

In New Delhi, the meteorological department said that cyclone Nisarga weakened after hitting coastal Maharashtra and will further weaken in a few hours.
