U.S warns the UN that Russia has lists of Ukrainians “to be killed or sent to camps” #Baaghi

Feb 21, 2022: According to an AFP report, the U.S has warned the United Nations it has information that Russia has lists of Ukrainians “to be killed or sent to camps” in the event of an invasion, according to a letter sent to the UN rights chief.

The U.S has “credible information that indicates Russian forces are creating lists of identified Ukrainians to be killed or sent to camps following a military occupation,” the letter says. It states the U.S is concerned about a potential “human rights catastrophe.”

The note, signed by Bathsheba Nell Crocker, the U.S ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, warns that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could lead to atrocities such as kidnappings or violence, and that political dissidents and religious and ethnic minorities can become targets.

The United States and its Western allies have estimated that Russia has deployed more than 150,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders in recent weeks. Moscow denies plotting to invade its neighbor, but demands assurances that Ukraine will never join NATO and that the Western alliance will withdraw its forces from Eastern Europe. The West has refused this demand.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have agreed in principle to meet, after French President Emmanuel Macron pitched a summit

A White House statement said Biden had accepted the meeting “in principle” but only “if an invasion hasn’t happened”.
