UAE regulator investigating aborted Emirates take-off at Dubai airport

Jan 15, 2022: According to a report by Reuters, the UAE civil aviation regulator has opened an investigation into an aborted take-off by an Emirates airline passenger jet this month at Dubai airport, the carrier confirmed on Saturday.

This is the second inquiry into the airline launched in less than a month, when another passenger jet did not increase ascent immediately after takeoff in December.

The flight landed safely. A spokesman for the Emirates said safety was its top priority and that the plane had not been harmed and there were no injuries as a result of the January 9 takeoff from Dubai.

The jet carrying passengers to Hyderabad in India was instructed to “reject take-off at departure”, which the spokesman said was “successfully completed”.

The spokesman said the General Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) Air Accident Investigation Sector was investigating the incident. The airline is also reviewing it.

Flight tracking website Flight Radar24, reports that a Boeing 777 jet began its takeoff while another 777 was crossing the runway. He said the take-off was stopped after the wide body jet reached a 100 knots speed.

The regulator is already investigating what Emirates has publicly described as a “technical incident” that occurred on a passenger flight from Dubai to Washington DC on December 20. Industry blog The Air Current reports, quoting FlightRafar24, that the passenger plane did not climb immediately after taking off from Dubai, but was flying abnormally low in a neighborhood. That flight landed safely in the United States.

The GCAA did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incidents.
