UAE’s Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed to visit President Putin

DUBAI (11 October 2022): President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed of UAE (United Arab Emirates) to visit Kremlin leader President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. 

According to the Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Zayed will travel to Russia on Tuesday to visit President Putin with the aim to help reach “effective political solutions” to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the UAE Foreign Office has confirmed that the Gulf country is aiming for diplomatic dialogue considering international law.

The visit will seek to establish the UAE’s aim of reducing the humanitarian crisis and escalation in the Russia-Ukraine region. Pertaining to the visit, the Ministry said, “seeks to achieve positive results to reduce military escalation, reduce humanitarian repercussions, and reach a political settlement to achieve global peace and security”.

Sheikh Mohamed and President Putin will also discuss bilateral ties between the two countries, during the visit, as well as regional and international issues of common interest.

This visit will be the third since Sheikh Zayed took office, and comes a week after the OPEC+ agreed to impose “deep output cuts” to support crude prices. 

Meanwhile, Finance Minister for UAE took to Twitter to write that President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed will head to Russia to defuse a “European war that exhausted the world”.
