ENGLAND: In the UK fifty-five percentage of all Omicron cases have been reported in those who have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine.
According to British media, experts fear that the current vaccine will not have an effect on Omicron which is spreading faster in South Africa in comparison to the Delta variant. The risk of recurrence is three times higher than in Delta.
The list of countries where cases of Omicron are being reported is also increasing. Mexico’s Deputy Health Minister has said that the first case of Omicron has been reported in the country.
According to reports, more than 5 cases of Omicron have been reported in the US and one in Paris, the capital of France.
Covid-19 tests have been made mandatory, one day before travel to the United States, to prevent the further spread of the new strain of coronavirus. Anthony Fauci, physician-scientist and immunologist serving as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President, has emphasized that fully vaccinated people should receive a booster dose of the vaccine when they are able to provide the best possible protection.
On the other hand, according to Indian media, 12 suspected cases of Omicron variant have come to light in a Delhi hospital. Eight people were admitted to the hospital yesterday and four today after the coronavirus tests came positive.
Omicron, first discovered in South Africa, represents a fresh challenge to global efforts to fight the epidemic. In which several countries have already re-imposed sanctions which many hoped would be a thing of the past.
This is the latest strain of coronavirus to emerge since the onset of the epidemic, including the currently dominant Delta variant, which was first detected in India in October 2020.
