UK: According the Government, people travelling towards UK will now have to take a compulsory Covid test before their departure in order to decrease the spread of the virus.

According to Sajid Javid, Health Secretary. the strict requirements would start from 04:00 GMT on Tuesday. Everyone aged 12 and above will be required to take a Covid test. Nowadays people only need to quarantine themselves until they are tested negative within two days of arriving.

The red list of countries will include Nigeria starting from Monday from where people arriving must Isolate themselves in a hotel for 10 days.

Mr. Javid stated that the government’s strategy since the emergence of the Omicron strain had been to “buy time” to assess and to “put in place protective measures”. He further said: “We’ve always stated that we would act rapidly if new data would require it.” The Department of Health and Social Care also mentioned that 21 Omicron cases related to Nigerian travel had been discovered recently.

This number is growing and Nigeria is now considered second to South Africa in terms of  cases of Omicron.
