Israel says its government websites hit by cyberattack

Feb 15, 2022: According to a report by AFP, Ukraine said on Tuesday that the sites of the country’s defence ministry and armed forces as well as two state banks were hit by a cyberattack that could have Russian origins.

The announcement was made by Ukraine’s Communications Watchdog with the former Soviet republic fearing a possible attack by Russian forces, which are conducting large-scale military exercises on its borders. Affected sites include Oschadbank State Savings Bank and Privat24 – the country’s two largest financial institutions.

The Defense Ministry’s site displayed an error message stating that the site was “undergoing technical maintenance.” Advertisements by The watchdog said Private 24 was the target of a “mass denial of service (DDOS) attack”.

“It cannot be excluded that the aggressor is resorting to dirty tricks,” the watchdog said in reference to Russia.
