Umer Sharif’s funeral prayers to be held in Karachi today

Oct 6, 2021: Omar Sharif’s sons Jawad Omar and Fawad Umar have said that their father’s funeral prayers will be offered in front of Zia-ud-Din Hospital in Clifton at 3 pm in Umar Sharif Park.
He will be buried in the cemetery adjacent to Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s mausoleum in the area. People are gathering in large numbers outside the residence of comedian Gulshan Iqbal to pay homage to him.
SSP South confirmed to Geo News that arrangements for the funeral of the legendary comedian have been finalized.
“More than 200 police officers will be deployed at the funeral under the supervision of two DSPs,” SSP South said. He said that police had installed a walk-through gate at the entrance of Omar Sharif Park in Clifton Block II.
The ground outside the main entrance of the park has been designated as a parking area for funeral prayers while traffic police personnel have also been deployed outside the park to ensure uninterrupted flow of traffic.
The bomb disposal squad also searched Omar Sharif Park before the funeral prayers.
Well known comedian Omar Sharif’s body arrived from Turkey on Wednesday morning. According to aviation sources, Turkish Airlines flight TK-708 took off from Istanbul at 12:53 in the morning. The scheduled flight landed at Jinnah International Airport at 5:33 p.m.
Omar Sharif’s body was flown from Nuremberg, Germany, to Munich, before being flown to Istanbul on Turkish Air Flight TK-1634.
The deceased’s wife Zareen Ghazal also returned to Pakistan on the same plane. His sons and other relatives received his body at the airport. Among others, PPP leader and Sindh minister Saeed Ghani, MQM’s Kishwar Zahra also arrived at the airport’s cargo terminal.
His body was later wrapped in the national flag and taken to Edhi mortuary in Sohrab Goth. His body has been shifted to his residence in Karachi. His fans carried his body to the morgue with rose petals and paid tribute to the legend.
Omar Sharif was admitted to a hospital in Nuremberg, Germany, on Wednesday after his condition deteriorated. He was taken to hospital after his air ambulance made a scheduled landing in Germany. The comedian suffered from a number of ailments, including coronary heart disease.
Three days after his stay in Germany, he was expected to return to the United States for medical treatment. However, a few hours after his dialysis, he suffered a heart attack that killed him.
His doctor and husband of former Pakistani actress Reema Khan, Dr. Tariq Shehab, said the comedian was feeling well during the dialysis.
However, four hours after dialysis at Nuremberg South Hospital, a heart attack proved fatal.
Sharif was born on April 19, 1955 in Liaquatabad, Karachi to an Urdu-speaking family. The star was hailed as one of Asia’s greatest comedians.
