UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the United States to lift sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.

The 15-member UN Council will consider implementing the 2015 agreement next week, with the UN Secretary-General saying Iran has abandoned its nuclear weapons program under the agreement. Therefore, the Biden administration should lift economic sanctions on Iran. Economic sanctions must be lifted, lifting sanctions will ensure Iran’s nuclear program is limited to energy.

On the other hand, Israel’s leading English newspaper The Times of Israel claims that Mahmoud Wazee, the chief of staff of former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, said after the cabinet meeting that Washington has agreed to lift other sanctions, including the oil, shipping and insurance sectors.  According to Mahmoud Wazee, who was part of Iran’s talks in Vienna, the United States has also agreed to lift sanctions on several key Iranian figures.

Many prominent Iranian figures were blacklisted by the United States under former President Donald Trump. US sanctions also applied to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. According to Mahmoud Wisey, under the agreement, the United States will lift 1,040 sanctions imposed on Iran under the previous regime. According to the World News Agency, the United States has not yet made any announcement in this regard.
