UN Chief Warns of Famine Risk in 4 Countries
New York, September 5 (online): U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that there is a serious risk of famine and widespread food insecurity in four countries affected by conflict
In his letter addressed to members of Security Council, UN Secretary General said lives of millions of people of Congo, Yemen, northeast Nigeria and South Sudan are at stake in the face of prospective famine .
According to UN chief there are very limited funds available to help these countries and quick action is required in this regard.
The U.N. chief said key indicators “are similarly deteriorating” in a number of other conflict-hit countries including Somalia, Burkina Faso and Afghanistan.
He has issued this warning on the basis of analysis of UN Global report on food crisis.
