UN Director resigns over western response to genocide in Gaza
The Director of the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Craig Mokhiber has resigned over the western response to the genocide in Gaza.
In a letter shared on social media and addressed to the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, he said the US, UK and Europe are not only refusing to meet their obligations under the Geneva Conventions, but endorse Israel’s aggression by providing it arms and political support.
He said we must dismantle the deeply racist, settler-colonial project of Israel to end the apartheid across the holy land.
Mokhiber said the genocide we are witnessing in Palestine is the product of decades of Israeli impunity provided by the US and other western governments and decades of dehumanization of the Palestinian people by western corporate media.
Meanwhile, Jordan has recalled its ambassador from Israel and told the Israeli ambassador to stay away in protest at the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, saying the attacks had killed innocents and caused a humanitarian catastrophe.
