ISLAMABAD, Nov 18 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s Chief Justice Athar Minallah Monday termed that the under process cases should not be discussed in TV talk shows and observed that the bench would pass a comprehensive judgment in this regard.
The chief justice asked the TV anchors to assist the bench regarding the matter so that contempt of courts should be avoided in future during TV programs.
The IHC’s bench conducted hearing on a contempt of court case against several TV anchors. The TV anchors including Hamid Mir, Abdul Malik, Kashif Abbasi and Sami Ibrahim appeared before the court.
During the course of proceeding, TV anchor Hamid Mir argued that whether the code of conduct of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) was not enough for TV channels to which the bench observed that it was not sufficient as the contempt of court was still continue.
The Chief Justice said that remarks should not be given on under process cases during the talk shows. He said that anchor Sami Ibrahim had used word ‘deal’ during his program. The bench remarked that there was need to explain term and condition of free media.
The bench further remarked that problems of a common citizen were not discussed in media, adding that public should be educated about laws. Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case till December 18.
