Unfair Dismissal Case | PIA Ordered to Pay £5 Million to Former Employees by UK Court
Former employees of the national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), claimed the airline violated the Employee Act during their dismissal and failed to adhere to British laws.
The claims have dealt a major blow to PIA, after claims made by eight former employees resulted in a win after a landmark unfair dismissal case in a London court. According to reports, the Croydon Court ordered PIA to pay compensation up to £5 million, to the employees dismissed two years prior.

The employees who had been employed under PIA for a period of almost five to fifteen years, challenged what they considered unlawful termination in a court, argued they were “unfairly dismissed”. They further claimed that the Pakistani airline violated the Employment Act during the process of termination and failed to adhere to the employment laws.

Crucial evidence was brought forward on the second day of the trial, that showed PIA had failed to uphold British legal standards while terminating the contracts of the affected employees. On the other hand, the court ruled in favour of the former staff members and declared PIA’s actions to be unlawful.
PIA has agreed to accept the court’s verdict and will be paying £500,000 in damages to the eight employees. The legal defeat is a major setback for the airline.
