UNGA adopts resolution against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

The United Nations (UN) General Assembly passed a resolution against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. According to reports, the UN General Assembly resolution condemns Russia’s attack on Ukraine, calling for immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. In the General Assembly session, 141 of the 193 member states voted in favor of the resolution, while five countries namely Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, and Eritrea – voted against it. During the voting, 35 countries, including Pakistan, abstained and expressed neutrality on the issue. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, has expressed deep concern over the Russia-Ukraine conflict, saying that the Russia-Ukraine conflict shows the failure of diplomacy. According to Akram, talks are needed to reduce tensions. The Pakistani diplomat expressed hope that diplomacy could help to avert military conflict, the principle of equal protection for all must be upheld, these principles must be universally accepted.
