The UN’s Special Coordinator on Afghanistan, Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu, on his visit to Afghanistan, met with several officials of the Islamic Emirate and influential political leaders.
In April this year, The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Sinirlioğlu, who is from Türkiye, to lead an independent assessment to provide recommendations for addressing challenges faced by Afghanistan.
As “Special Coordinator,” Sinirlioğlu will lead the assessment with a view to providing “recommendations for an integrated and coherent approach,” the statement of Guterres’ spokesman said.
Former president Hamid Karzai, In his meeting with Sinirlioğlu, reiterated that “national understanding” is the only way to establish lasting peace and stability in the country.
The former president wrote on X that he praised Sinirlioğlu’s efforts to improve the economic situation and ensure stability in the country and called for girls’ education and women’s return to work as vital to Afghanistan’s development.
