US, Canada and European countries pledge support to virus ravaged India

Washington, April 26 2021: In a statement made by the National Security Council spokesperson of the White House, Emily Horne, on Sunday, said the US will begin immediately supplying India with Covishield vaccine production raw materials, therapeutic drugs, test kits, ventilators and PPE to combat the surge of corona virus infections in the South Asian country.

She however, omitted to mention whether the US would also send to India its surplus supply of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which along with the Johnson and Johnson shot has been linked to a very rare but deadly form of blood clots after vaccination. The AstraZeneca vaccine has been approved for use in India and according to Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading epidemiologist and pandemic expert, the US is considering sending its supply to India.

Britain, France, Canada and Germany have also committed to help as the crisis grows particularly in the capital New Delhi. Global vaccination figures surpassed the 1 billion mark this weekend as the country of 1.3Billion people battles severe oxygen and medicine shortages and an overwhelmed medical system. Marc Garneau, the Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau took to Twitter on Sunday saying that his country was ready to help and had contacted Indian authorities on what sort of support they could offer.

Health experts have long warned that no one will be safe from Covid-19 until everyone is safe, including populations in the developing world, therefore making it in the wider global interest for wealthier countries to offer support to and aid densely populated, lower-income nations such as India to inoculate major swathes of their populations.
