The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that since January 20 of this year, the United States had deported 1,563 Indian people, with the majority of those deported travelling on commercial planes. “Since 20 January of this year, till yesterday, some 1563 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States so far. Most of these Indian nationals have come by commercial flight,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a briefing on Thursday.

240 of the 636 Indian people who had previously been deported earlier in 2025 arrived on commercial planes. The deportation statistics are in line with increased US scrutiny of immigration enforcement during the Trump administration. All visa applicants’ social media profiles will be closely examined under the new guidelines.

According to a press statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in March, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities provided information regarding 295 individuals who were under their custody, all of whom have final orders of removal from the United States. Concerns over the treatment of deportees, specifically on the flight that touched down on February 5th, were brought up by the Ministry with the US side.

According to the US authorities, deportation missions are carried out on both military and chartered planes, and restraints are employed for safety and security purposes. The flight officer in charge of the deportation makes the final option, even though women and minors are often excused from being shackled.
