American star tennis player Serena Williams defeated the Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova in the first round of the US Open 2019.
Williams defeated Sharapova in straight two sets with a final score of 6-1, 6-1 each. Novak Djokovic of Serbia, Ashleigh Barty of Australia and Serena Williams of America advanced to the second round of the US Open.
Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated the Spanish player Roberto Carballés Baena in straight sets, with a final score of 6-4, 6-1, 6-4. On the other hand, five time consecutive US Open Champion Roger Federer of Switzerland defeated Sumit Nagal of India with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.
The second round of the mega event will start from Aug 28, 2019.
