Washington, June 27th: President Trump has signed an executive order to protect public monuments and statues in the United States.
According to US media, US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to protect the monuments, declaring the destruction of public monuments and government property illegal.
According to the order, federal grants to states that fail to protect monuments will be stopped, and those who attack monuments will face long prison terms. The president said in a media briefing that the new executive order would protect the statues and monuments.
Protests continue across the country after a series of tragic incidents of discrimination against black Americans by white police, with protesters plotting to demolish a statue of former US President Abraham Lincoln tonight. Security has been beefed up outside Lincoln Park to protect the statue.
Slave statues and monuments have been smashed in several US states. The statues and monuments that were attacked were controversial because of the American history of enslaving black citizens and the supremacy of white Americans.
The riots in the United States began on May 25 after the tragic death of 46-year-old black unarmed man George Floyd at the hands of a police officer, and the whole of the United States is now reacting to racism.
