US Prosecutors find Ghislaine Maxwell guilty
In a sweeping move, the United States (US) prosecutors have said, “justice has been done” by convicting Ghislaine Maxwell in the sex-trafficking trial.
Ghislaine Maxwell, an association of Jeffrey Epstein, has been declared guilty on five counts by the Manhattan federal court on Wednesday, 25 December 2021. Maxwell who is a French and UK citizen, and a naturalized US citizen, has been found guilty of trafficking a minor for Jeffrey Epstein. The sixty-year-old was arrested in July of 2020 and charged with involvement in the sexual abuse of teenage girls as young as fourteen years old.

US prosecutors have found Maxwell guilty on five out of six charges faced. According to reports by The Guardian, Maxwell has been found guilty “of conspiracy to entice individuals under the age of 17 to travel in interstate commerce with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity, conspiracy to transport individuals under the age of 17 to travel in interstate commerce with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity, transportation of an individual under the age of 17 with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of individuals under the age of 18”.
According to reports, Maxwell has been found not guilty on one count that is, “enticement of an individual under the age of 17 to travel with intent to engage in illegal sexual activity”. The jury reportedly found the Epstein associate guilty after a deliberation period of forty hours. Following the verdict, US attorney Damian Williams issued a statement that a “unanimous jury” found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty “of one of the worst crimes imaginable”. Williams added that while the road to justice has been long, justice has been done.

He commended the victims for coming forward and fighting for their right to justice. Williams stated, “Their courage and willingness to face their abuser made this case, and today’s result, possible”.
Judge Alison Nathan announced the verdict, as Maxwell reportedly remained ‘expressionless”. Maxwell, 60, is known for being a long-time associate of Jeffrey Epstein, a known sex offender. Prince Andrew of the British Royal Family, including former US Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, have also been linked with the sex-trafficking duo. According to earlier reports, Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in a New York jail in 2019, a month into his arrest for sex trafficking.
Maxwell is expected to serve a 65-year sentence for her crimes.
