Once again, the United States has reiterated its stance of not endorsing regime change in Pakistan. The US emphasized its support for free and fair elections in the country without taking a specific position on the matter. US State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller conveyed this reaffirmation of their position during a press briefing. Journalists raised several questions during the briefing, including one about a recent rally by Pakistani Americans outside the White House in response to President Biden’s policies in Pakistan. Here’s a recap of the exchange:

Journalist: I have two questions for you, sir. One of them pertains to a significant rally outside the White House by Pakistani Americans about a week or so ago. It appeared to be one of the largest gatherings since President Biden assumed office. Is the State Department aware of the sentiments expressed by Pakistani Americans and their concerns regarding President Biden’s support for potential regime change in Pakistan?

Spokesperson Miller: I want to reiterate, once again, that we do not endorse regime change, and this has been our consistent stance. I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve discussed this issue. Our policy is crystal clear: we do not take a stance on Pakistan’s elections but advocate for free and fair elections. Additionally, we are aware that in the United States, one of the strengths of our nation is the ability for people to exercise their First Amendment rights.

Regarding the broader question of US-Pakistan relations, the spokesperson remarked: “We view Pakistan as a valued partner of the United States, and we continue to collaborate on a range of important issues. Our perspective on this matter remains steadfast and will not change.”
