‘Vampiric Overconsumption’ draining the world of water: UN
In its conference on water security, on Wednesday, the United Nations (UN) urged governments to ‘better manage’ the essential human resource. According to the UN, about a quarter of the world’s total population has to turn to unsafe drinking water while the other half lacks basic sanitation. On the other hand, almost three-quarters of the recent natural disasters were connected to water. Addressing the conference, Secretary-General António Guterres said, “We are draining humanity’s lifeblood through vampiric overconsumption and unsustainable use, and evaporating it through global heating”.
