Peshawar (30th Nov, 2019): Voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees to be suspended from next week. 

According to reports, the voluntary repatriation of registered Afghan refugees to be suspended starting next week. While, voluntary repatriation is already slow at the moment, it is set to be suspended for almost three months.

According to sources, the number of registered Afghan refugees holding cards is more than an approximate 3 lac across the country including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). Moreover, it has been confirmed that the voluntary repatriation of their homes will be suspended during the winter months, spanning from 1st December, 2019 to the 29th of February, 2020, respectively.

Moreover, the process will commence starting from the 2nd of March, 2020 as confirmed by sources. It is believed that the Afghan refugees are being paid almost 200 dollars each to return home during this suspension.

Reports confirm, that the government has extended the deadline for the return of the Afghan refugees till March of next year. The date has reportedly been extended nearly five times. Additionally, the repatriation if non-registered refugees who are holding cards will continue.
