We are trying very hard not to close educational institutions, Shafqat Mahmood
Lahore, 22nd March, 2:15 PM: Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said that the education ministry is willing to keep educational institutions open as the country is taking all measures to curb the third wave of coronavirus pandemic.
Baaghi TV: According to reports, Shafqat Mahmood while addressing a press conference on Monday said that the ministry wants to keep the education centres open as online education is not an alternative to the regular classes.
He said that students are not happy with the online classes and it is rather a very difficult decision to decide on the closure of schools.
He added, “NCOC believed that there’s a high risk of COVID-19 spread in schools. 50 million children are linked with education and if someone got infected, the disease would spread. We tried to keep schools open where there is no problem.”
Regarding the NCOC meeting on March 24, Mahmood said we would follow the recommendations of the health and education ministers.
According to reports of Baaghi TV, Shafqat Mehmood on Sunday said that an important meeting is scheduled to be held on Wednesday during which the decisions regarding the reopening or further closure of educational institutions would be taken.
Taking to his Twitter account, the minister wrote:
The third coronavirus wave is serious; requires careful review. All education/health ministers will meet Wednesday March 24 at the NCOC to take a decision regarding opening or further closure of educational institutions. Health of students, teachers/staff primary consideration
